Blue Jays Save the Day
Rogers Centre Sees Clutch Defense
The Toronto Blue Jays made a spectacular defensive play in the 2nd inning of their game against the Angels on July 28, 2023. With runners on first and second and one out, LAA’s Mike Trout hit a hard-hit ground ball to third baseman Matt Chapman. Chapman fielded the ball cleanly and fired a strike to second baseman Santiago Espinal, who then fired to first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to complete the inning-ending double play, saving a run.
Blue Jays Pitching Shines
The Blue Jays' pitching staff has been one of the best in the league this season, and they continued their strong performance in the game against the Angels. Starter Jose Berrios pitched 5.2 innings, allowing only two runs on four hits. He struck out seven batters and walked two. The bullpen then came in and pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and striking out four batters.
Offensive Struggles for Blue Jays
The Blue Jays' offense has been inconsistent this season, and they continued to struggle in the game against the Angels. They managed only five hits and one run off of Angels starter Shohei Ohtani. The only run came on a solo home run by Bo Bichette in the 4th inning.
Blue Jays Win 1-0
Despite the offensive struggles, the Blue Jays managed to win the game 1-0 thanks to their strong pitching and defense. The win improved their record to 59-46, and they remain in contention for a playoff spot.
