Remembering 9/11 victims with ties to Connecticut

Twenty years later, the state honors those lost in the terrorist attacks

On Sunday September 11, 2022, the 21st anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York City, Washington, DC, and Shanksville, PA., ceremonies were held around the state to remember the victims, including those with ties to Connecticut. In all 154 state residents died in the attacks.

Honoring the memories of the victims

In Danbury, a ceremony was held at the Danbury War Memorial. The names of the 10 city residents who died in the attacks were read aloud, and a wreath was placed at the memorial. In Greenwich, a ceremony was held at the Greenwich Town Hall. The names of the 12 town residents who died in the attacks were read aloud, and a bell was rung 2,977 times, once for each victim of the attacks.

In Hartford, a ceremony was held at the State Capitol. The names of the 14 state residents who died in the attacks were read aloud, and a wreath was placed at the memorial. In New Haven, a ceremony was held at the New Haven Green. The names of the 11 city residents who died in the attacks were read aloud, and a candlelight vigil was held.

In Stamford, a ceremony was held at the Stamford Government Center. The names of the 13 city residents who died in the attacks were read aloud, and a wreath was placed at the memorial. In Waterbury, a ceremony was held at the Waterbury Green. The names of the 10 city residents who died in the attacks were read aloud, and a moment of silence was held.
