Cisco Cuts Thousands of Jobs (7% of Workforce) as It Shifts Focus to AI, Cybersecurity
San Jose, California
Cisco Systems, one of the largest makers of computer networking equipment, said on Wednesday that it would cut 7% of its global workforce as it shifts focus to high-growth areas like artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
This is the second round of job cuts this year for Cisco. In February, the company announced plans to lay off 5,500 employees, or about 5% of its workforce at the time.
The latest round of cuts will affect about 4,100 employees and is expected to be completed by the end of the fiscal year in July 2025. The company said it would provide severance packages and other support to affected employees.
Cisco said the job cuts are part of a broader restructuring plan aimed at reducing costs and improving efficiency. The company is also investing in new areas like AI and cybersecurity, which it sees as key growth drivers in the years to come.
